Ode to a Listserv Scholar

by

Lee Francis

Oh, that I would, like Spencer
write stanzas of perfect meter
on my three eighty-six computer

I'm a lurker it is true
are you a lurker too?
Nah. Just a techno-junkie
wanting to wax erudite
or even sometimes bright

Alas, I am not of your class
nor of your internet station
I meekly lurk in yon ether
of pixels and pixies

Not for you the flaming sword
To cast out the malcontent's words
Instead you wield the power of Pentium
And your fingers glide across the keys

Precious forests remain safe
from the bombardment of your bombast
that brashly blasts and befuddles
the fragile minds of the listserv

and your words fill the screen
and your words fill the screen
after screen after screen
after screen after screen

Thou art the great niggler
the noble pontificating scholar
with significant catch-phrases
of IMHO and BTW that only other
techno-junkies understand
In My Humble Opinion
By The Way

and your words fill the screen
and your words fill the screen

Oh, most venerable scholar
of the ether-net

Get a life
