Big Horn Medicine Wheel
The Big Horn Medicine Wheel is located on a mountain ridge at over 11,000
feet above sea level. In only the last 20 years it has been shown to have been an
astronomical observatory. A wonderful set of Web pages has been put together
by Paula Giese on this wheel and others in the Rocky Mountains. I couldn't have done
it better myself.
A
photograph of the medicine wheel is available from the University
of Wyoming. Access can be slow. It is difficult to figure out what
you are seeing in this photograph unless you have visited the site.
The small stone circle in the foreground lies on the edge of the
large circle forming the medicine wheel. The central cairn can be
seen beyond this feature, with spokes of smaller stones radiating
outward from it. The fence surrounding it can be clearly seen.
