My tribe is known for our basket making tradition. I have a profound respect for basket makers and the tradition that they are keeping alive. In fact, I have sought to learn the basics of the process so I too can help keep the tradition alive. That said, I feel that traditions should not be used to stifle any new forms of art.

This work is my attempt to bring the basket making tradition together with my own ideas and with current social conditions. I included soda and beer cans of various brands and created a star pattern for visual effect. Sugar and alcohol have certainly had an impact on native communities so it stands to reason that they would be included in native art.

"Achama" to all who helped me empty these!
